Sophie Tindall's evaluation:

If the sound doesn't work please read the script below:

Slide 2:
The most noticeable convention we use is open spaces. These connote danger and juxtaposes what is going on. Often the antagonist is very secretive and private and doesn’t show much emotion. To show a wide open space as our opening connotes the vulnerability of Katie. Typically, the open space is used to show the audience that the character has nowhere to hide, this therefore contrasts the character of Katie as her entire purpose is to stay hidden.

Slide 3:
This is an example from sority row. The murdered female is dressed in white, immediately connoting her innocence. This is juxtaposed against the storyline also as she has seduced a male within the film, who was the boyfriend of another female. Therefore the white used, like our film, is ironic.

Slide 4:
The convention of fire is used here. This is effective as the colours all merge together connoting the merging of all the different characters which feature in the plot. Fire denotes destruction and can be the cause of death in a violent way. The audience automatically regard fire as something dangerous and therefore this could be seen as a prediction as to the forthcoming events of the film.

Slide 5:
This is also an example from the film sority row. The shot is a wide angle and the fire fills the screen, this therefore focuses the attention of the audience drawing in all the thoughts of fire.
The most noticeable and typical conventions of a horror film is blood. Blood denotes something has happened to injure the character themselves or another character and too much blood often is the cause of death or the sign that death will happen.

Slide 6:
Here we use blood to signify something has happened to Annie, and as she is lying still the audience presume she is dead. The blood on the white t-shirt, which connotes innocence and purity, connotes how katie’s innocence has been tainted.

Slides 7, 8 and 9:
These are examples from saw and our film. Blood is used as a sign more clearly in this as the blood is a result of a situation the audience are watching and this is common within gore horrors such as saw. Our film uses blood to show something has happened to a character somewhere to entice the audience whereas saw makes them wince away.

Slide 10:
This is our title of our piece which takes place within our title sequence. This is the only title which, asides the production company and the logo at the start, which features against a background that isn’t the film. The red is constantly a generic signifier within films. Red denotes blood which connotes death or injury of a character. This within our film is foreshadowing events that are to come. This is the only title that is in the colour red. We do this to make it stand our against the white that all the other titles are in and to connote the blood and death. The background of this title is black and this connotes the danger of Katie and also the secrecy surrounding annies death, which is the red title.

Slides 11 and 12:
This is an example of the font and colour we use for the other titles, for example production designer and director. We used this font as it looks similar to bones which again denotes death, and also the decay of a dead body. We used white to connote the innocence which contrasts against the font which looks like bones.
We decided to put these titles in the bottom right corner to connote Katies shrinking away from society in her hiding place.

Slide 13:
This is an example of the title sequence from the film catch me if you can. The iconography tells the story and the setting. Although this is effective, this is something we would’ve been unable to do as we needed the first two minutes of a film, including the title sequence. This title sequence showed us the order of which we needed our titles and how they should be placed and with what time approximately.

Slide 14:
Overall i think we follow the typical conventions of a horror film. We decided to follow conventions as we, who are an audience also, know the effects that the horrors with these conventions have upon an audience. Through making use of generic signifiers, such as blood, we follow these conventions well and get to the point we wish to make and to generate the desired effects of fear within our audience.
